When it comes to creating a closet of clothes you’ll love for years, beware of microtrends. Those social media-viral moments, such as bright-pink Barbiecore, ballet flats paired with leg warmers, and the Juicy Couture tracksuit, come and go almost as quickly as they arrive. Instead, stick to trends you can see yourself liking for years to come. Not only will this save you cash in the long run, but it’ll also keep your closet pared down and wearable. There’s no point in spending money on something you’re only going to wear a few times.
So, how do you adopt a style that’s timeless? Look to the icons. Princess Diana rocked an oversized crewneck and bike shorts long before the invention of TikTok, and so many of her looks (such as that Rowing Blazers lamb sweater and bold pendant chokers) are still fashionable today. Another accessory the Princess of Wales wore that’s still on trend? Quilted bags. Glamour found the exact bag she loved in the early ’80s — and you can still buy it today. And it’s only $150.
Princess Diana’s Iconic Handbag Is Under $200
The handbag is by the French brand Souleiado, which has roots that date back to the mid-1600s. However, the company has been operating under the Souleiado name since the 1930s, and by the 1950s, the brand was sold by major retailers such as Bloomingdales and Macy’s, which is likely where the people’s princess discovered it. As Glamour points out, Diana often wore high-fashion labels such as Dior and Chanel, so this affordable handbag was a departure from the norm.
The bag has since been renamed the Adiana Printemps bag (a nod to the late princess), and features two shoulder straps, a large pocket with a smaller inner pocket, cotton lining, and a zip closure. It’s also available in two colorways: baby pink and white and red and white. But we think there’s just something so elegant and wearable about the blue print that Diana wore.
Princess Diana Wore the Handbag Numerous Times
Princess Diana wore the quilted bag at a number of events, including a polo match in 1982 when she was pregnant with her first child, Prince William. Unlike celebrities today who wear items one time for the photo, Diana was known for rewearing her favorite items way before it was part of some sustainable trend. Rewearing your pieces over and over is not only timeless, but it’s quite literally princess behavior.

If you want to pick up a quilted bag that has the same vibes as the Souleiado one, tons of brands have their own versions of the look. You can find totes that have an open-top structure, or smaller bags with zip closures such as Diana’s. Either way, these bags are casual, cute, and go with just about anything, making them a timeless addition to your closet.
