As the calendar inches closer to fall, fashionistas are already turning their attention to the season’s most anticipated trends, eagerly incorporating them into their wardrobes even during the warmer months. This approach to seasonal fashion highlights an emerging trend: blending the rich textures and bold colors of fall and winter into the more laid-back vibes of summer. Imagine slipping into a deep-green dress or a rich red-wine blouse amid the sun’s rays — an unexpected yet striking juxtaposition.
The 2024 fall and winter runway shows were brimming with eclectic elements that also work in warmer weather. Feather details, often reserved for colder months, are now making a bold statement in lighter fabrics, offering a whimsical touch to summer ensembles. Leopard prints, a perennial favorite, are reimagined in breezy silhouettes and vibrant hues that defy seasonal norms. Studded accessories, from belts to bags, add a dose of edgy sophistication to outfits at any time of year, while faux fur, often seen as a winter staple, is being embraced in lighter, more breathable forms.

1. Fringe
You might think of fringe on leather and suede, but designers such as Bottega Veneta, Dries Van Noten, and Ferragamo all sent various textures down the runway. Pair your summer LWD with fringe-adorned boots or a fringed bag, and then swap out the white dress for a sweater and jeans when temperatures cool down.

2. Fur (Faux, Of Course)
While some consider fur jackets and fur-adorned clothing a timeless trend, it hasn't been as big in recent years. But the fall/winter 2024 runway was a fur frenzy, with designers including Loewe, Jonathan Anderson, and Bally showing cropped fur pullovers, fur vests, and fur-detailed knits. Fur is tough to wear when the weather is warm, but you can ease into the trend with faux fur-adorned denim jackets and bags without looking like a full-on bear cub.

3. Studs
Studded accessories keep coming back around — and for good reason. They're an easy way to add edge to any look in your closet. For fall/winter 2024, designers including Alexander Wang, Khaite, and Isabel Marant showcased studded boots, belts, and bags with silver and gold hardware and even some pops of color. Add one to your summer frocks and then to winter-ready pants and sweaters.

4. Mulled Wine
The color of the season? Well, it seems there might be a few, but one is a fall take on the bright reds we saw all summer: wine. The rich bordeaux hue was seen on the Tory Burch, Paco Rabanne, and Bottega Veneta runways, in jackets and boots and bags. There's no easier way to incorporate a fall trend into your wardrobe now than with a new color. Switch out your summery bag for a deep-red leather one, or grab some red ballet flats you'll wear all season.

5. Bold Green
Following a bright green brat summer, all shades of olive, hunter, lime, and more are huge for fall and winter. Look to the runways of Bottega Veneta, Chloé, and Jil Sander for some of the coolest green fashions, and incorporate the hue into your wardrobe now to get in on brat winter (maybe?).

6. Leopard and Cheetah
Animal prints are still going strong in the fall and winter. Just ask designers such as Marni, Versace, and Isabel Marant. Add a classic neutral print to your current wardrobe, or have some fun with pops of color. (So what if there are no real red leopards?)

7. Feather Details
Feathers are no longer reserved just for fancy dresses and evening bags (though they're still there, too). Now, suits, sweaters, jackets, and handbags all have feather accents. Designers Tory Burch, Givenchy, and Bottega Veneta showcased feather details in wearable ways — as well as in some look-at-me ensembles, of course. This fall and winter, we're not saving our feather-adorned clothes and accessories for special occasions. We're wearing them to work, to dinner, and even to the grocery store.
