Every year, the Pantone Color Institute selects a color that gets everyone talking. More than just an aesthetic choice, the Color of the Year reflects both design trends and cultural shifts — in the words of the institute’s vice president, Laurie Pressman, it’s “about what’s happening in the zeitgeist at a macro level.” To wit, 2025’s neutral shade looks like it came right out of a Skims ad campaign: Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, a rich, warm brown hue. “For Pantone Color of the Year 2025, we look to a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial and comforting warmth extends further into our desire for comfort, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others,” Pressman said in a statement.
What does this mean for you? You’ll soon see beauty, home, and fashion brands roll out Mocha Mousse-esque products. Already, Joybird has an entire Mocha Mousse collection, complete with sofas and loveseats in the warm brown hue. You’ll also find Libratone Up open-ear headphones, Pura diffuser sets, an IPSY makeup bag and brush collection, Janavi shawls and blankets, and Society6 artist-designed pieces (rugs, art prints, shower curtains, and more) — all in Mocha Mousse.
Of course, you can always skip the literal interpretations of the color trend and just add some warm brown hues into your makeup and clothes. Wear warm brown eyeshadow, with Nars Total Seduction Eyeshadow Stick in Oblivion, or line your lids with Morphe Bi-Liner Dual-Ended Gel Pencil in Want or Need. We also love Quince’s Mongolian Cashmere Fisherman Cropped Cardigan Sweater in Brown. The Mocha Mousse possibilities are endless.
